nite ridin'

two night rides this week. short one up stoorie brae with friends. longer one at a deserted glentress without. both RAWKED.

latter saw the first trial of my new USE joystick maxx as a head mounted light after a couple of months of using it bar mounted on the commuter. nice wee bit of kit. joystick on medium + lupine on low gave me loads of light which would be more than enough for a silly long nightride somewhere. just need to find somewhere that doesn't pass right by someone's hoose - was toying with the idea of beinn a ghlo, but reckon the mad dogs of fealar lodge mightn't be too happy. glen ample + sustrans (including the baw crusher) anyone? meet here 7th March @ 19:00?

in other news, drops holding, but reeeeeefed to scarytight+1.

almost out of the fog

the bike day started bad. punctured and totalled a tyre on the coastal path about a mile from home - fix puncture, mince home, drive to work. took a half day, drove home (no tolls on forth road bridge - yay!) via bike shop, fit new tyre, fannied about doing minor chores and finally head out for a wee road ride in fog, which got thicker and thicker as i climbed up and over the hills to the north of town.

i've always liked riding in fog or an east coast haar. tends to be nice and still with the fog damping sounds down for a very odd atmosphere, but this must have been noisyfog, noticed:
* the slop of shit hitting ground after being fired out the back of a muck spreader
* the chatter of canada geese not entirely keen on a passing cyclist
* the five mile roar of the M90 motorway
* the sizzle of welders welding in a roadside garage
* various under-tyre sounds - from near silence to ploughing through mank to the crunch of broken glass

was hoping that i'd make it out of the fog - got real close, blue skies over head and you could just about see the wall of gloom lightening at the furthest point. but then it was left turn and deep back into the murky depths towards home.

a mixte week:

sheldon brown dies - like most of the folks that have posted up about the all-too-soon passing of sheldon, i'd never met him, but had gained from the knowledge and advice that he had generously shared on the web. MF's article in singletrack covers the shit side of the biking internet, sheldon was the upside. mad props, big man and thoughts to family and friends

work bit too busy

dons dumped out of cup - just woeful

braw ride at glentress with jac and chris (can you say spring?)

not enough riding to work

buying of mid-life crisis trousers
